We bought our first one of these a few years ago, a little after the warranty expired it stopped working, we were offered a replacement by breville at the manufacturers price which we took but that too only lasted about 18 months. We swore we wouldn't buy another but they are a very convenient and good looking kettle so about 14 months ago we bought another. This too stopped working last week. Very disappointed. Its not like its heavily used, only for a cup of tea in the morning and maybe in the late afternoon getting home from work. This is a lovely kettle when it works but in our case has proven to be very unreliable.

The breville IQ (Smart) kettle has been one of the best appliance We have ever bought! We have now had ours for just over 9 years. I will make two or 3 cups of tea a day and it gets used quite a lot in day to day cooking and baking. I love that The different temperature setting are labeled for what temp is best for each category of tea and that it has a keep warm function also just feels great when you pick it up. Due to it's age it had only just started to have a few minor issues so will be looking to replace it with another IQ kettle in the near future. P.S. it's definitely a great idea for wedding present or for anyone who loves to drink tea!

When this kettle works it works well; however, its operational life is short lived. Within days of warranty expiration, our machine took a permanent leave of absence: the base powers on; it recognizes the kettle; accepts selections, yet shuts down upon pressing “start.” A relatively expensive paperweight indeed. Quality control concerns are always exacerbated by Chinese manufacture with this and similar reviews highlighting such a point. Without pride of purpose, faith in a product line is found wanting and the price-point should align appropriately.
