This is the third of 3 replacement toasters. It is an absolutely beautifully crafted appliance. The near-silent toast transport mechanism is impressively "cool." Unfortunately, like the two previous toasters (replaced promptly by Breville), it fails at the one thing it is supposed to accomplish: make a piece of toast. All three models performed similarly, the first after a year of use, the other two new out of the box. The issue as I see it is that the inside heating elements barely turn on while the outside elements function normally, resulting in uneven toasting and burnt toast edges. When put in bagel mode the inside elements fire up normally, so clearly they are not defective. My guess is that the controller is somehow faulty. Since I can't properly make toast with it, I've given it one star. If it worked properly I would award it six stars, it's that nicely designed and built.
Returned 1st one due to elements not working 6mths after purchase. Amazing easy, responsive return ( Hence the 3*s). Elements shonky in the replacement toaster <6mths. Very disappointed in this product. LOVE Breville's espresso and grinders for coffee though.
I was tired of cheap toasters and their programmed obsolescence so decided to invest in this expensive one. Worked great, and all the features were on point. I was satisfied. Until, just after warranty, one element on one of the slots was very weak, toasting at a different speed then the other side. Then it happened in the other bread slot. I did not realized this was a reoccurring issue but now see that its a common problem. Seems like more expensive programmed obsolescence to me. Breville was once a trusted brand but in this day and age of sustainability, I will give my money to those who truly believe in long lasting product.
