the Crystal Clear™

I was satisfied with this kettle while it lasted. It boiled water quickly. This was my first glass kettle and I preferred the glass body to the plastic bodies of my previous kettles. However, the lid failed after only 2 years of use. One of the two plastic hinges sheared from the base causing the lid opening mechanism not to work and the lid to pop open after boiling. Similar failure modes are reported in many other reviews above. No spare parts are available. I hope this review will encourage Breville to improve the design since designing a reliable hinge ought not to be a difficult thing to do.

I’m a fan of this brand and I thought this will be as strong and reliable as my coffee machine, toaster, oven and coffe grinder. But it was really disappointing to see that after almost 2 year the handle gave up and now the lid does not close anymore. I really love this kettle but it’s dissapointing to see that didn’t last long and apparently there is no way to repair it.

We bought the original water kettle in 9/2019 and were very pleased with it. Water boiled so quickly and loved the clear glass so we could see how full it was. In early June 2022 it failed -- the switch turned to the "on" position, but the switch light did not turn on and the kettle did not heat up. As the one year warranty had expired, they replaced it for a reduced price. It seemed fine but within about 3 weeks, the on/off switch on the replacement kettle would not move to the "on" position no matter how hard we pressed it. We are now awaiting the the 3rd kettle to arrive. We are hopeful that #3 will not fail for a long time. If it does we are probably done with this Crystal Clear product!
