Machine is wonderful! I bought it for two reasons. 1st being it’s a great investment for those who like to do cleanses throughout the year, but don’t want to spend 100s of dollars each time. You have the freedom to make recipes and quantities to your liking. 2nd, (pre-covid) we were (and eventually will be again) big party hosts. At our bar, there is nothing comparable to freshly squeezed juices for cocktails. This has saved me HOURS of hand squeezing fruits veggies, to a mere 30 minutes. Clean up so easy! If you have really hard water, I do recommend washing everything by hand, even the dishwasher safe stuff. A final perk is what remains after juicing. The remnants of the fruits and veggies are power food for our compost soil in our garden!
Hi, I love all Breville products. This juicer has been good as well but the plastic chute keeps breaking (which seems to be the same issue others have had on here based on reviews). I wish it wasn't plastic because it seems like it will keep breaking if not made out of something else. I've seen older versions made of metal and I see the XL has a metal chute but it seems like that one only fits the XL and I have the Plus. Not sure if there are any other options but would like to have an alternative to plastic, especially if the plastic is getting in my juice.
I hate to write a negative review because I own several excellent Breville products that have lasted many years without defect, but I feel that the issues I have been having with the "Juice Fountain Cold Plus" juicer should be shared with everyone because I have concerns not just about reliability but about safety and health. The bottom portion of the plastic food chute adjacent to the blade and filter has broken off several times in the past 20 months that I have owned this product, resulting in chunks of plastic going into the pulp collection bin rendering the juicer unusable. It is also very likely that fine or microscopic pieces of plastic have ended up in the juice itself. The first time a large chunk broke off, the product was under warranty, and the part was replaced free of charge. At that time, I noticed a rough edge at the bottom of the chute where plastic was flaking off and began to pay closer attention, making sure I wipe it off with a towel after each use to make sure I was removing any micro-plastic residue. The second time, about two months later, the same thing happened, and I had to buy the part on Amazon which runs from $35-40 (The replacement part on the Breville website has been sold out.) Now, about six months later, the piece has broken a third time. Again, in addition to the chunk of plastic breaking off, perhaps even more concerning, I have noticed again how the edge of the chute appears rough and worn. Fine pieces of plastic residue and dry pulp give the surface a coarse sandpaper-like feel to the touch and flake off easily when I lightly run my fingernail across it. Even with the precautions I have made by toweling off this edge after each use, I have no doubt that small pieces of plastic make it into the juice itself. I would not expect so much wear and tear from such infrequent use and from a product as reliable as Breville. I use the juicer infrequently, about once every two weeks, for fruits and vegetables that it should be capable of handling: pineapples, apples, lemons, and carrots. After having so many issues with this product, I can't recommend it, and I do not plan on replacing the part again or even using the juicer at all, not necessarily because of the cost, but rather because of concerns for the safety of myself and my loved ones. I am worried that someone might swallow either a large chunk of plastic, mistaking it for an ice cube, or that the micro-plastic residue from the bottom edge would make its way into the juice without anyone knowing. In hindsight, I would have bought the "Breville Juice Fountain Cold, XL", which appears to have corrected this issue with the plastic cute having been replaced with stainless steel. Though it costs $100 more, my guess is that in the long-run, I not only would have saved money on the back-end, but I would also saved some piece of mind.
